Most Anticipated Series of 2023

Another year has gone by, which means another year of new stories ahead! While many of the upcoming shows of 2023 have yet to be officially confirmed, there are still a few zingers queued up and ready for the forthcoming year. So, here are some of the most anticipated series of 2023 that are at the top of our watchlist so far!

1) Secret Invasion

Based on the Marvel Comics of the same name, Secret Invasion is being set up as the MCU’s series event of the year. Linking to the events of 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home and the Captain Marvel film series, Secret Invasion will dive into the Skrull’s invasion of planet earth, an occurrence that will no doubt have a momentous impact on the MCU. The series consists of 6 episodes and is rumoured to premiere on Disney+ sometime in early 2023, although the specific date is yet to be confirmed.

2) The Continental

Not only are we getting John Wick: Chapter 4 this year, but fans will also be treated to the all-new prequel mini-series, The Continental. Set way back in the 1970s, we’ll see Colin Woodell starring as a young Winston Scott as we get a little juicy backstory into the pivotal John Wick character. The specific release date is unannounced as of yet. However, The Continental is confirmed to release on Amazon Prime Video sometime in 2023.

3) Good Omens 2

A series over three decades in the making, authors Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett discussed the possibilities of a sequel to their hit co-written novel, Good Omens, since its initial release in 1990. Sadly, though, these plans never came to fruition – until now! In honour of the late and great Sir Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman has worked with Amazon Prime to continue the highly acclaimed 2019 adaptation of the original Good Omens novel, finally putting the age-old plan for a sequel into motion. And we couldn’t be more hyped! Having salvaged the sticky situation they got themselves into last season and gotten their respective head offices off their backs, Aziraphale and Crowley are finally able to settle into their quiet existence on earth. However, their new leisurely lives are interrupted when a mysterious angel shows up in London’s Soho, bringing with it a strange and intriguing mystery. Good Omens 2 is currently predicted to release on Amazon Prime Video in the summer of 2023.

4) Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story

Costume drama fans are keeping their fingers crossed for a third series of Bridgeton in 2023. In the meantime, though, we know for certain that we will be getting a limited prequel series focusing on the origin story of Charlotte. Unlike the main Bridgerton series, which was based on a collection of romance novels by Julia Quinn, Queen Charlotte will consist of all-new original material written by Shonda Rhimes. It will give us a sneak peek into the life of a young Queen Charlotte and the youthful romance leading up to her marriage with King George. We do love a good backstory! Consisting of 8 episodes, the series will premiere on Netflix sometime in 2023.

5) Velma

Scooby-Doo has been a childhood staple for kids across the globe for over five decades. So, naturally, the announcement of this new series has raised a brow or two. Not only because it revives some of the most iconic characters of our childhoods but because it will be doing so in an entirely different light. A comedic Velma-based origin story of the Mystery Gang, this series is said to have a somewhat more adult energy to it, exploring the fast youth of our favourite gang of sleuths. While it will include the majority of the Scooby gang, Scooby himself will be absent after the creators decided it would be too jarring to have every kid’s favourite pooch surrounded by gore and sexual themes. It may seem hard to swallow at first, but having a comedic, adult-centred animated series certainly didn’t do Batman any harm. We’re intrigued, to say the least. Velma will premiere on HBO Max on January 12th.

6) Agatha: Coven of Chaos

For those who are missing Marvel’s Wandavision, you’re in luck! While Wandavision will remain a standalone one-off for the foreseeable future, 2023 will be granting us a spinoff series focusing on everyone’s favourite witchy villain, Agatha Harkness. While the plot is being kept tightly under wraps, theories are flying around as to what this new series could entail. After what we saw in Wandavision, some pretty explosive possibilities are lined up for this one. We can’t wait to see what’s in store! Agatha: Coven of Chaos will be available to stream on Disney+ on a currently undisclosed date in 2023.

7) Ahsoka

2023 is a great year to be a Star Wars fan, with no end of intriguing new content on the horizon. However, one of the most highly anticipated upcoming Star Wars titles is undeniably Ahsoka. After making her first appearance in 2008 in Dave Filoni’s hit animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the fiery character was quick to become a fan favourite and followers of the franchise have been craving more Ahsoka-based content ever since. Well, the wait for Ahsoka to take centre stage is finally over, as she will star in her own series that is due to be released on Disney+ in late 2023.
