And to save you the time of flicking through the cinema listings, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best new Halloween films showing this October that are guaranteed to get that adrenaline pumping!
Micheal Myers is back, and he’s creepier than ever! A continuation of the horror hit, Halloween, the masked murderer returns to haunt the life of Laurie Strode. Set four years after her initial encounter with the crazed killer, Laurie is now living with her granddaughter and writing her memoir, trying her best to move on with her damaged life. However, when a case arises in which a young man is accused of murdering a boy he was babysitting, tenuous connections cause Laurie’s world to snowball, sending her spiralling back into the rage and fear she tried so hard to escape. A continuation of an iconic classic, here’s to hoping this brand new sequel lives up to its predecessor.
Don’t Worry Darling has been quick to spark discourse among the film buff community. Nevertheless, it’s gained a reputation for its ominous commentary and unnerving atmosphere. Set in the 1950s, an experimental company houses families of their employees in the idyllic town of Victory. While the men slave away at their top-secret 9 to 5’s, the wives are free to experience the numerous pleasures of the neighbourhood. However, one housewife named Alice starts to notice red flags, catching glimpses of an insidious power that’s secretly pulling the strings. If something seems too good to be true, that probably means it is…
In the short time since its release, Smile has created quite a buzz among horror fans. When a psychiatrist named Dr Rose Cotter witnesses an alarming incident involving a patient, she’s haunted by the harrowing memory of her patient’s brutal demise. But, as gruesome as it was, there was more to it – something inexplicable occurred in her office that day. As Cotter tries to get to the bottom of the incident, she comes to the haunting realisation that she’s being stalked by more than a mere memory. Praised for its eerie take on what human beings would usually perceive as a positive attribute, Smile has been widely named one of the most frightening horror flicks of the year.
For those who love a good sci-fi horror, Nope is exactly what you need this Halloween! Set in California, a brother and sister duo lead a busy rural life running a working horse ranch. Out in the American sticks, life is pretty quiet. That is until they begin to notice a strange and mysterious presence looming in the skies above, which soon starts displaying some very sinister tendencies. From the mad mind of Jordan Peele, Nope is one hell of a trip and crammed to the brim with bizarre twists and turns. You’ll be giggling one minute and biting your nails the next!
A nauseating reminder of the infamous killer clown craze, Terrifier 2 sees the return of Art, the murderous clown that gave us all nightmares with his big screen debut back in 2016. Not for the faint of the heart, this menacing slasher flick certainly lives up to its name, and it doesn’t look like its successor will be any different. After being resurrected, Art eagerly returns to his savage spree, heading once again to Mile County to give Victoria Heyes a Halloween she’ll never forget – that’s if she makes it through. Although it looks fairly similar to the first instalment in terms of format, it doesn’t look any less intense. Gratuitously grim with a heavy dose of gore, Art the clown makes Pennywise look huggable!
Where would Halloween be without a bit of demon possession? Amid an alarming rise in demonic manifestations, a 25-year-old nun named Ann finds that she has a gift for exorcisms. Believing the practice to be her higher calling, she is the only nun within the Roman Catholic Church afforded the right to perform this ritual. However, as she delves into the darker side of spirituality, she comes face-to-face with a horrifying ghost from her past, battling the very demon that tormented her mother years before. A thriller led by psychological intrigue with a peppering of visual horror, Prey For The Devil promises to have you squirming in your seat.
